TU-E1 Black Sea and Eastern Turkey / 19 Days
Unlike western Anatolia with its brilliant
historical sites and turquoise coasts,
the Black Sea region and northeastern
Anatolia present themselves humbly,
with a natural grace that dignifies
once-celebrated cities, desolate monasteries,
old trade routes, and high mountain passes.
Time seems to have trapped itself in the
delicate ornamentation of a 17th-century
portal or in the frost-cracked faces of
once-upon-a-time gods at the top of a
7,000-ft mountain.
Once you come to this part of the world,
what you have left behind will fade away
under the high, blue skies.
